The Office of Health Professions Educator Development is now soliciting workshop proposals from health professions educators interested in developing and delivering workshops for our community.
This is an opportunity to:
1.) Get recognition for your ideas and contributions in medical education
2.) Strengthen your academic portfolio and CV
3.) Build collaborations across The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and its partner institutions
4.) Receive constructive critique and reflections on your facilitation skills as part of the development process. Those selected will be prepared to present their work in regional, national and international academic formats.
5.) Be eligible for awards to support dissemination of your work at national/international conferences
Professional Development Areas
Career Development
Proposed sessions might include: CV development; surviving the promotions process; professional marketing, interviewing skills; management skills; or other career development topics
Diversity & Inclusion
Proposed sessions might include: educating learners with disabilities; culturally sensitive patient care; creating inclusive spaces; race and medicine; trauma informed care, or other topics in diversity & inclusion
Health Professional Wellness
Proposed sessions might include: resolving conflict; time management; combating burnout; mindfulness and medicine; setting & achieving professional goals; or other wellness topics
Leadership
Proposed sessions might include: facilitating interprofessional teamwork; negotiation skills; public speaking, managing personnel; managing change; coaching for success; implementation science or other leadership topics
Scholarship & Research
Proposed sessions might include: turning ideas into scholarship; collaborative scholarship; poster design; academic writing; or other topics in scholarship & research
Teaching & Learning
Proposed sessions might include: mentoring & advising; clinical teaching; small group facilitation; evaluation, feedback, & remediation; presentation & lecturing skills; inclusive teaching; improving the learning environment; or other innovative teaching & learning topics
Technologies and Techniques for Education
Proposed sessions might include: using AI and machine learning for the creation and assessment of learning modules, the application of apps for educational endeavors including presentations, learner assessment, career development, and research.
Timeline and Process
All proposals will undergo committee review and workshop leaders will be notified about accepted proposals on a rolling basis. The development process will include at least one dry-run presentation of the module with feedback provided. In addition, all workshops will require the development of an asynchronous learning activity to be shared on our website. The Office of Health Professions Educator Development retains ownership of all related materials developed as part of this process.
